A recorded statement taken through an interpreter is a statement filtered through a third party. A field report translated after the fact is a report that no one who was present can fully authenticate. When the investigator and the translator are the same person, the chain of custody for the information is shorter, cleaner, and easier to defend.
An Investigator Who Speaks the Language, Not a Vendor Handoff
The usual arrangement puts two people between counsel and the facts - an investigator who does not speak Spanish, and a language vendor who does not know the case. Detail goes missing in that gap.
